India to receive three key military

New Delhi: In the latest development on the defense front, India and US have agreed to jointly develop and produce cutting-edge military equipments. These technologies will help Indian military to enhance its reach and control.

Government sources,on Monday, revealed that the Pentagon has agreed to share Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) [as shown in the picture above], hot engine and extended battery man pack technologies with New Delhi, under the defense trade and technology initiative. This is as per a Hindustan Times report.

India being world’s biggest importer of weapons, in order to promote its domestic arms industry has agreed to receive technology inputs.

The deal will be finalized when US under-secretary for acquisition, technology and logistics Frank Kendall arrives in the capital on February 24.

Earlier he was in India in January to give final touches to defense issues ahead of US President Barack Obama’s Republic Day visit.

Currently, EMALS technology which will replace the existing steam catapults is being developed by General Atomics.

The latter is used to launch jets from aircraft carriers and is presently being used in two Indian aircraft carriers- INS Viraat and INS Vikramaditya.

The modernized EMALS technology was offered by US President Barack Obama to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Washington trip in September.

The new technology will not only allow more sorties and reduce the thermal signature of an aircraft carrier but will also provide launch capability for unmanned aerial vehicles, sources said.
