Uttar Pradesh sets up fund for roads

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has decided to set up a 'tourist road fund' to maintain roads leading to monuments and heritage sites in the state, an official said Saturday.
Amrit Abhijaat, director general of Uttar Pradesh tourism, told IANS that link roads connecting heritage sites and main roads are invariably found to be in bad shape and are seen as a deterrent to tourist influx.
He said the link roads would now be world class as desired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Under the new fund, secretary tourism would hand over a list to the secretary of Public Works department (PWD) enumerating the roads which are crucial for tourists but are not in a good shape.
These roads will then be constructed by the PWD, utilising the funds.
